May Hopheads meeting recap.

The May 2012 Hopheads meeting was held at Rena’s house and was well
attended.  Everybody looked great!  Rena was a gracious host and
provided delicious beef and pork tacos as well as chips, salsa,
guacamole and queso dip.

We had a new homebrewer, Oliver, join us and
we enjoyed some his well brewed beer.  A variety of homebrewed and
commercial beers were sampled and some wine, mead and skeeter pee(hard
lemonade) also entered the mix.

We did discuss some changes that are
coming to the Emerald Coast Beerfest Festival(ECBF) in September.
Homebrew clubs will only be allowed 4 complimentary tickets. There was some confusion last year and the organizers made it clear that each club will only receive 4 tickets this year.  We will, however, be able to
purchase discounted tickets for others in attendance.

We could split the cost among all Hopheads that attend or help subsidize those that are
bringing kegs to dispense.  Either way, we’ll distribute them fairly and
equitably and we hope everybody can attend.  We also discussed two club
competitions that are coming up.  We’ll have a tasting and judging of
low gravity, red or pale ales at the next meeting.  Please keep the OG
below 1.045, the IBU below 30 and the SRM below 18.  We will also have
Kolsch brewing contest with blind judging at our August meeting to
determine who can brew the best Kolsch for The Emerald Coast Beer Fest
Homebrew Club competition.  Our goal is to take the best beer we can
brew and bring home a medal for the club.  Please refer to the ECBF
website ( for dates and details.
