January Meeting Recap

The January meeting was well attended and Chris was a gracious host.  Chris has a nice man-cave behind his house and it was the perfect venue for a 70 degree night in January!  We enjoyed meeting a new homebrewer, Bobby Brown, and sampling his beers.  Welcome, Bobby!  The potluck concept seems to be the most equitable way to make sure we have enough food for these events and thanks to everyone that brought a dish.  We did conduct some club business and agreed to form some committees to plan future events and handle the money.

We had a great variety of craft beer and everyone enjoyed sampling some interesting homebrewed beers including Ken’s sweet potato-based beer, Doc and Hillary’s sweet stout, Jay’s oatmeal cookie ale and Chris’ outstanding coconut stout.  Great job guys!

We finally had the opportunity to try some of Heretic Brewing’s beers, brewed by the famous homebrewer, Jamil Zainasheff.  They were all quite good and there is no doubt that Jamil’s book, Brewing Classic Styles, should be in every homebrewer’s library.  Jay and Chris put together a very nice lineup for our beer-auction fundraiser and we can’t thank them enough for their efforts.

As far as formal club business goes, the Governance Board appointed an Event Planning Committee and a Treasury Committee.  Ben is going to be handling website and Facebook updates.  Hillary is going to do some research regarding club organization structures such as forming an LLC or 501c3.  We are certainly going to need everyone’s help and input so an ad hoc committee assignment is likely in everyone’s future.

We still have t-shirts available in many sizes and we really need every member to buy at least one shirt.  You can give it away if you like, but please buy one as this will help pay for future events, tickets, travel and fun!

The Event Planning Committee has tentatively scheduled the next meeting to be held at the Chattahoochee Brewing Company (fingers crossed).

Look forward to seeing everyone next month.  Call or email us if you have any questions or comments.
