July Meeting Recap

Hey Hopheads! Despite the rain, everyone had a great time this Saturday. We had a great turn-out. There was a plan to get a big group photo but that turned out to be impossible with the rain. We really appreciate the work that Dee put in to have our canopy, banner, and jokeybox set up. We talked about the upcoming Emerald Coast Beer Festival, arranging for rooms and transportation, and the mini IPA contest we will be conducting at the next meeting at Bobby Brown’s house. More details about this will be coming out soon. We also really appreciate Big Dave volunteering to use his van to help transport all the brew.

If you are planning to join us in Pensacola at the beer festival and have not reserved your room yet, please do so as soon as possible. We plan to leave on Thursday at 9 a.ml, wheels on the road from the Chattahoochee Brewing Company, so get there by 8 a.m. to help us load things up. Reserve your room for the nights of September 5, 6, and 7th. The hotel is the Days Inn Pensacola Beach and reservations can be made at 1-800-934-3301. Make sure to do this soon. Refunds can always be made, but once the rooms are booked that is it. Also, email us if you need a room mate and we will get you in touch with others wanting a room mate.

We tried several great homebrews on Saturday’s meeting and some interesting commercial beers too. For homebrews: Kurt brought his dry stout, Ben brought an Engllish Mild, Brian brought a double chocolate oatmeal “cookie” stout, Ken and Lisa brought a wheat beer and a mango wheat beer, Bobby brought a Sculpin IPA cone, and Dee brought his famous Kolsh. Let me know if I forgot anyone in that list. We had a nice surprise appearance of our neighboring, Auburn Homebrew Club. They also shared some interesting homebrew with us as well. One of them was a brew done with brett. They also shared a few beligains and other goodies. We also had some interesting commercial beers shared. There were several IPAs, a cucumber Saison by Cigar City, and few Imperial Stouts.

Several of you pre-bought your T-shirts and we really appreciate it. Please, if you have not purchased your shirts yet, use our paypal button and do so. This money will help us cover the cost of everyone’s tickets that are attending. You can purchase the shirts at this link:https://hopheaded.wordpress.com/tshirts-and-brew-stuff/ You don’t need a paypal account to do so. It will take your debit or credit card. Please include the size and colors you want in the comment section of the paypal checkout.

Between the T-shirt sales and the raffle we have raised enough money to cover the cost of the shirts and buy several tickets for members to attend the ECBF in September. We still want to encourage anyone that has not paid dues or bought their shirts to do so as soon as possible so we can cover the festival tickets for everyone. Speaking of the festival, a separate email will be coming to you soon asking for information to help us get organized. Please respond to it when you get it.

It was great to see everyone, share different beers, talk about homebrewing, meet new people, hang out, ave a good time and end the night with a fireworks display. We appreciate Derrell allowing us to use the area so close to his business, and everyone who participated and attended. The club is growing fast and that can only be a good thing. Keep an eye out for an email that will be asking you for some information, and have more details on the beer festival. Another email will be coming in the next few weeks that will have details on next month’s meeting. If you plan to enter the IPA contest, let us know as soon as possible. It was great to see you all, and hope you all keep brewing and sharing with us for many meeting to come!
